BMS Failure Analysis Engineer - Auburn Hill

1. Perform failure analysis on BMS hardware, including customer-returned components, PCB assemblies, and electronic control modules.

2. Develop and execute test plans to reproduce reported failures, isolate potential root causes, and verify failure mechanisms at the circuit, PCB, module, and system levels.

3. Troubleshoot electrical issues involving power supplies, communication circuits, voltage and temperature sensing, insulation monitoring, and related electronic components.

4. Conduct laboratory investigations using oscilloscopes, digital multimeters, DC power supplies, CAN diagnostic tools, and other electronic test equipment.

5. Review customer complaints, diagnostic logs, and supporting technical information to develop effective investigation strategies.

6. Prepare technical investigation reports, document experimental evidence, and support root cause analysis and corrective actions through the 8D process.

7. Collaborate with engineering, quality, and customer support teams to investigate technical issues and support customer complaint resolution.

8. Support laboratory capability development, test procedure improvement, troubleshooting standardization, and test automation initiatives.

9. Provide remote and occasional on-site technical support as required.

Required Qualifications

1. Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology, or a related technical field. Equivalent demonstrated technical experience may also be considered.

2. Hands-on experience in electrical or electronic hardware testing, troubleshooting, validation, or failure investigation.

3. Solid understanding of fundamental circuit theory, analog and digital electronics, and common electronic components.

4. Practical experience using oscilloscopes, digital multimeters, DC power supplies, and other electronic test equipment.

5. Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, circuit diagrams, component datasheets, and technical documentation.

6. Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills, including the ability to develop hypotheses, perform measurements, and validate findings through experiments.

7. Self-motivated, with strong learning ability, problem-solving skills, and attention to technical details.

8. Good written and verbal communication skills in English, with the ability to document technical findings and collaborate with cross-functional teams.

9. Willingness to perform hands-on laboratory investigations and travel occasionally for technical support.

Preferred Qualifications

1. Experience with Battery Management Systems, automotive electronics, ECUs, embedded systems, or energy storage applications.

2. Experience with CAN communication and diagnostic tools such as CANalyzer, CANoe, or similar software.

3. Knowledge of analog and digital circuit troubleshooting, microcontrollers, power electronics, or semiconductor failure mechanisms.

4. Experience with Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) testing, test bench development, or hardware validation.

5. Experience with Python, LabVIEW, PLC, SCADA, or other test automation and data analysis tools.

6. Familiarity with 8D, Root Cause Analysis, Fault Tree Analysis (FTA), RMA, or hardware reliability investigations.

7. Experience with environmental testing, thermal cycling, insulation testing, or high-voltage electrical systems.

8. Mandarin communication skill is a plus.

Expectations Following Training

The company will provide appropriate onboarding and training in BMS products, laboratory equipment, and failure analysis procedures.

Following the necessary training, the engineer is expected to progressively:

1. Independently perform laboratory tests, failure reproduction, and electrical troubleshooting.

2. Take ownership of assigned failure analysis cases, including investigation planning, testing, data analysis, and technical reporting.

3. Identify potential root causes, evaluate supporting evidence, and determine when additional verification is required.

4. Conduct initial investigations of complex technical issues and request specialized support when appropriate.

5. Contribute independently to customer complaint investigations and reduce the need for routine guidance from senior engineers.

Position Focus

This is primarily a hands-on technical engineering position focused on BMS hardware failure analysis and laboratory investigations, with occasional field support responsibilities.

1. Candidates are not required to have previous BMS industry experience. However, a strong electrical engineering foundation, practical troubleshooting skills, and the ability to develop independent failure analysis capabilities are essential.
