Serve as part of the Vehicle Engineering team to develop ride, steering, handling and braking attributes for all Tesla vehicles including: Utilizing Passive and Active systems as appropriate to the targets set, and Road and Track evaluations and tuning required for all world market conditions. Working between quantitative (data acquisition) and qualitative (subjective) reporting, the successful candidate will guide efforts between modeling, design, and controls towards developing Tesla character and DNA in all our class leading products. Duties include planning managing and executing tests, product lifecycle management and working cross functionally with teams such as modelling, design, and firmware engineering, which require timely and actionable feedback. Inventory control and parts tracking from Bill of Materials for both production and prototype parts will also be necessary to support development and launch success in the factory. This is a hands-on role requiring a high level of autonomy, proven ability and flexibility. Responsibilities Work closely with design team to help grow our supplier partners to have better capability in delivering driving attributes with consistency and repeatability. Provide design, controls and architectural feedback to ensure that Tesla attribute targets are met. Perform drive assessments and generate quantitative metrics and qualitative descriptions that then lead the changes necessary to develop vehicles in keeping with Tesla’s character Support developments of other vehicle areas (e.g. NVH, Simulations, Range, Mass). Generate engineering data (run logs and reports) for all activities. Participate in design, program, and product reviews and provide supported feedback. Manage and execute testing programs, working cooperatively and efficiently communicating within a dynamic and interactive environment. Requirements Good technical written and spoken English BS in Mechanical Engineering 10+ years of experience in automotive development engineering Vehicle dynamics experience with expertise in performance vehicle drive and tuning, with a desire for excellence is a must. Experience with testing in high speed environments at test tracks and public roads Vehicle instrumentation and data analysis An insatiable desire to develop ultimate vehicle performance characteristics Expertise in performance vehicle driving and tuning, with a desire for excellence Strong organizational and interpersonal skills Experience working in a complex, dynamic and fast-paced environment Creative problem solver with demonstrated success who develops innovative solutions Experience developing performance goals for different specifications of vehicle, markets, controls and autonomous vehicles a plus Extensive experience in chassis tuning (Springs, ARBs, Dampers, Tires, Bushings etc.) as well as active system such as FSD, CCD, active ARB etc. Experience in leading market-recognized Vehicle Dynamics development of passenger vehicles.
