Project Strategy & Leadership: Lead small molecule drug project initiation including molecular profiling, design direction, timelines, and milestones. Accountable for project progress and final deliverables.

Innovative Molecular Design: Drive novel molecule design, compound synthesis route design, and CRO management.

Team Building & Management: Oversee daily departmental operations, talent development, and succession planning — including resource coordination, performance evaluation, and professional mentoring — to foster a collaborative, excellence-driven team culture.

Cross-Functional Collaboration & Resource Integration: Serve as the core interface for Medicinal Chemistry, working closely with Biology, Pharmacology & Toxicology, CMC Product & Formulation, and other departments. Integrate internal and external resources to jointly solve critical project challenges and accelerate candidate screening and optimization.

Technical Innovation & Intellectual Property: Stay current with the latest scientific advances and emerging technologies in the field; drive adoption of new methods within the team. Lead or contribute substantially to patent drafting and IP strategy to ensure effective protection of R&D outcomes.

Budget & Resource Management: Lead departmental business planning (BP) and budget preparation; ensure all research activities are conducted efficiently, safely, and within budget.

Education: Ph.D. in Medicinal Chemistry or a closely related discipline.

Experience: - 15+ years of experience in small molecule drug discovery within the pharmaceutical or biotech industry, with 10+ years of independent leadership managing a Medicinal Chemistry team of 20–40 people. Demonstrated track record in team building, people management, and performance evaluation. - As a core contributor, have independently led the full discovery lifecycle of multiple small molecule programs from initiation through Preclinical Candidate (PCC) nomination. At least one molecule advanced to Phase III, or multiple molecules advanced to Phase I/II. - Proven experience managing CRO partnerships, ensuring deliverable quality, operational efficiency, and information security. - Demonstrated success in cross-functional collaboration; able to maintain clarity of thought and high productivity in high-pressure, fast-paced, and rapidly changing environments. - Preferred: Prior experience in early-stage target evaluation and independent project initiation (self-driven, not task-assigned by senior management).
