Senior Software Engineer - Core AI

As a Software Engineer on the Foundry Billing team, you will: Design, implement, test, and operate scalable billing services that process high-volume AI usage and reliably deliver billing data to downstream Azure Commerce and Marketplace systems. Enable new AI models and features for billing, working with partner teams to define billing units, meters, usage semantics, attribution, and end-to-end launch readiness. Improve billing correctness and reliability, including usage validation, deduplication, reconciliation, replay and recovery mechanisms, and detection of missing or incorrect billing data. These are core guarantees of the Foundry Billing platform. Build automation and engineering tools for billing validation, model onboarding, deployment, monitoring, backfill, remediation, and other production operations. Develop effective monitoring, diagnostics, and alerting to detect billing delays, data loss, incorrect metering, and service reliability issues before they affect customers. Enable Foundry FinOps and new business scenarios and platform capabilities by collaborating with different teams.

5+ years of professional experience designing, developing, and shipping software using any of C#, C++, Java, Python, JavaScript/TypeScript, Rust, or Go. Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience. Preferred Qualifications: Hands-on experience with distributed systems, cloud services, containers, orchestration platforms, or production AI infrastructure. Proven ability to diagnose complex technical issues and improve the reliability, scalability, performance, security, and cost efficiency of online services. Excellent written and oral communication skills. Experience in technical leadership in driving engineering roadmaps, leading v-teams, mentoring and helping others grow technically is a plus. Experience building AI applications or agents using models, tools, retrieval, agent frameworks, evaluation, tracing, or observability is a plus. Experience using public cloud services, including Azure, AWS, or Google Cloud, and familiarity with identity, role-based access control, private networking, and operational monitoring.
