This position is part of Alibaba Cloud’s Infra Energy and Carbon Management Strategy & Delivery team. The team is responsible for power solutions, power delivery, electricity portfolio planning, and carbon management for data centers in China and international markets. At this critical stage of Alibaba Cloud’s global expansion, and amid rapid growth in Infra development both domestically and internationally, the team is hiring project development professionals with experience in energy and carbon management strategy & delivery.

   Establish and maintain a strong understanding of Infra electricity volume & quality requirements. Achieve the targets of power resources, power solutions, electricity portfolio planning, and carbon management for Alibaba’s self-built and leased data centers.

   Oversees power supply projects from planning through delivery, coordinate power demand, develop power supply solutions, and ensure the achievement of all project delivery objectives

   Drive computing-electricity coordination initiatives and secure sufficient, reliable, cost-effective, and low-carbon electricity for data centers through solutions such as PPA, bring-your-own-power schemes, incremental distribution networks, power trading, and integrated source-grid-load-storage systems.

   Apply knowledge of power project development models in key countries to address power supply requirements, and assess the technical maturity, reliability, and high level economics of emerging energy solutions for data centers.

   Establish and maintain strong working relationships with government energy authorities, local governments, grid operators, power generation companies, and project partners, including industrial park operators, developers, contractors, and equipment suppliers.

   Establish and maintain a strong understanding of regional power markets. Lead the development of standards for electricity cost management, power trading, renewable energy switch, greenhouse gas inventories, and carbon neutrality, as well as relevant industry guidelines.

Minimum qualification

   At least three years of relevant experience in power project development or design, grid interconnection, or power trading.

   Familiarity with multiple power generation technologies, source-grid-load-storage applications, power systems, grid architectures, power market rules, and carbon market policies.

   Familiarity with electricity tariff structures and metering methods, as well as grid connection application and electricity using processes for data centers.

   Strong capabilities in policy research, stakeholder communication, technical solution development—including substations and transmission lines—and project management, supported by a proven track record and extensive hands-on experience in power projects.

   Strong technical expertise in electrical power engineering; familiarity with customer-side power business management and power supply project management; and a solid understanding of planning, construction, operations and maintenance, production, sales, and management processes in the power industry.

   Strong learning agility and the ability to solve complex and challenging problems; capable of synthesizing complex information, identifying critical issues, developing solutions, and establishing internal and external decision-making pathways. Preferred qualification:

   Candidates holding a Registered Electrical Engineer or Registered Consulting Engineer professional qualification are preferred. The pay range for this position at commencement of employment is expected to be between $145,000 and $234,000/year. However, base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. If hired, employee will be in an “at-will position” and the Company reserves the right to modify base salary (as well as any other discretionary payment or compensation program) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, Company or individual department/team performance, and market factors.
