Senior Director, Medicinal Chemistry

The successful candidate needs to conduct sophisticated medchem design and effective synthesis of proprietary compounds to enable multi-dimensional SAR and address critical medchem and project issues.  The person will be responsible for route design and synthetic trouble shooting for very challenging molecules, plus creative and sophisticated medicinal chemistry design (including but not limited to: SAR, physicochemical property optimization, bioisostere replacement, SBDD, specific trouble shooting design to address ADMET liabilities, etc.) to identify proprietary scaffold, enable advanced SAR, achieve clear differentiation and critical project-based problem solving.

• Independently design, execute and trouble shoot unprecedent organic reactions, including but not limited:
• Independently design and optimize multi-steps small molecule organic syntheses with limited literature reference
• Independently conduct analytical data interpretation, identify critical reaction issues and generate corresponding problem-solving strategies
• Sophisticated in different analytical and purification methods
• Independently functions as chemistry leader (or EPL/STL candidate) to lead cross-functional team to identify key scientific questions, clarify differentiation and project directions, and enable creative and effective medchem designs to address critical project issues base on strong scientific knowledge and comprehensive competitive landscape analysis. 
• Independently enable sophisticated medchem design to identify proprietary scaffold, enable multi-dimensional SAR and critical project-based problem solving
• Keep tracking of critical scientific progress in synthetic chemistry and medicinal chemistry, and enable effective applications to project progression / trouble shooting
• Independently present scientific data to internal audiences, or attend international conference to present BeiGene research to industrial professionals.

• PhD degree, major in organic chemistry or medicinal chemistry
• Above 15 years working experience (above 10 years industrial experience) on synthetic organic chemistry (heterocycle chemistry, transition metal mediated cross-coupling reactions, natural product total synthesis, etc.) and medicinal chemistry drug design
• Expertise in organic chemistry mechanistic understanding, synthetic route design and problem-solving capabilities; plus industrial pre-PCC project leading experience on medicinal chemistry drug design (e.g., middle-level biology and pharmacology understanding of project related target, SAR (structure activity relationship), physicochemical property optimization, bioisostere replacement, SBDD (structure-based drug design), specific trouble shooting design to address ADMET liabilities, etc.)
• Excellent scientific sense and data interpretation capability
• Strong learning agility and trouble-shooting capability
• Excellent scientific presentation capability
• Highly self-motivated with strong passion on scientific exploration
• Capable to lead cross-functional communications and collaborations
• Excellent English writing, reading and speaking capability
