Familiarity with at least one robot-learning paradigm: imitation learning (behavior cloning, DAgger-family methods), reinforcement learning, or vision-language-action (VLA) models such as OpenVLA, π₀, or GR00T. Robotics fundamentals Working understanding of rigid-body kinematics and dynamics, forward/inverse kinematics, and basic manipulator control. Simulation & tooling Practical experience with at least one physics simulator (MuJoCo, Isaac Sim/Lab, or SAPIEN), including building or modifying scenes and robot models. Comfort with ROS2 (nodes, topics, message types, rosbag/MCAP) for data collection and system integration. Perception & sensor data Foundations in computer vision and 3D perception (RGB-D, point clouds, camera calibration); familiarity with multimodal or visuotactile data is advantageous. Ability to handle real-world sensor streams: synchronization, coordinate transforms, and data quality issues. Software engineering Strong Python; C++ a plus for real-time or embedded components. Proficient in a Linux development environment, Git-based workflows, and reproducible environment management (conda/Docker). Capable of writing clean, debuggable code for data pipelines and experiment infrastructure, not just notebooks. Required Attributes Research literacy — able to read, distill, and critically assess recent papers (e.g., from ICRA, CoRL, RSS) and translate ideas into runnable experiments. Bias to action / hands-on mindset — comfortable getting hardware, simulators, and messy real data working rather than staying purely theoretical. Systems thinking — sees how perception, learning, control, and data collection fit together end-to-end. Rigor & reproducibility — careful with experiment tracking, ablations, and honest reporting of negative results. Communication & collaboration — works effectively across research and engineering, documents work clearly; bilingual English/Chinese is valuable for a Shanghai-based, cross-border team.
