(Associate) Director, Non-Oncology Therapeutics

·        Provide scientific and strategic leadership for discovery-stage programs across immunology, inflammation, autoimmune diseases, and other non-oncology therapeutic areas.

·        Lead multidisciplinary project teams and drive decision-making from target identification and validation through lead optimization, candidate selection, and IND-enabling activities.

·        Develop and execute integrated research strategies by working closely with Discovery Biology, Medicinal Chemistry, Pharmacology, DMPK, Biomarkers, Translational Sciences, Clinical Research, and other key functions.

·        Serve as a core leader within matrix project teams, ensuring alignment of scientific objectives, timelines, resources, and portfolio priorities.

·        Evaluate emerging targets, therapeutic hypotheses, technologies, and external innovation opportunities to support portfolio growth and differentiation.

·        Drive critical scientific assessments, including target validation, mechanism-of-action studies, translational strategies, and competitive landscape analyses.

·        Contribute to governance discussions and present program strategies, key findings, risks, and recommendations to senior leadership.

·        Establish productive collaborations with academic institutions, biotechnology companies, CROs, and key opinion leaders to enhance program execution.

·        Identify scientific, technical, and operational risks and proactively develop mitigation strategies.

·        Mentor and develop scientists and project leaders while fostering a culture of innovation, accountability, collaboration, and scientific rigor.

·        Stay current with advances in immunology, drug discovery technologies, therapeutic modalities, and industry trends to ensure scientific competitiveness.

• Ph.D., M.D., or equivalent degree in Immunology, Pharmacology, Molecular Biology, Cell Biology, or related discipline.
• Associate Director: Typically 8+ years of relevant industry experience in pharmaceutical or biotechnology drug discovery.
• Director: Typically 12+ years of relevant industry experience with demonstrated leadership of discovery programs and scientific teams.
• Proven experience leading drug discovery project teams within a pharmaceutical or biotechnology environment.
• Demonstrated success advancing programs from target discovery and validation through candidate nomination and/or IND-enabling studies.
• Strong understanding of the drug discovery and development process across multiple functions.
• Experience working effectively within a matrix organization and influencing cross-functional stakeholders without direct reporting authority.
• Strong preference for candidates with expertise in immunology, inflammation, autoimmune diseases, or related therapeutic areas.
• Demonstrated ability to integrate biological, pharmacological, translational, and competitive intelligence to inform project decisions.
• Track record of scientific innovation demonstrated through publications, patents, successful development candidates, or other significant industry contributions.
• Excellent leadership, communication, stakeholder management, and presentation skills.
• Experience building high-performing teams and developing scientific talent.
• Strong strategic thinking, problem-solving ability, and business awareness.

Supervisory Responsibilities: 

• May directly manage scientists and project leaders.
• Responsible for coaching, mentoring, performance management, and talent development.
• Expected to lead and influence cross-functional teams within a matrix environment.
