The Forward-Deployed AI Engineer serves as the primary technical interface between the Manufacturing AI Team and the production environment. The role is responsible for translating shop-floor operational challenges into deployed, verifiable AI agent solutions, and for delivering the last-mile integration between AI systems and the organisation’s operational technology (OT) and industrial data sources. Based in Shanghai, the candidate will engage regularly with production stakeholders and will travel to the Hefei vehicle-manufacturing facilities (F1–F4) for on-site scoping, integration, and deployment. Operating at the intersection of software engineering, systems integration, and manufacturing operations, the candidate will own the full delivery lifecycle of AI agents — from problem identification and scoping through prototyping, integration, evaluation, and production adoption. The position reflects the team’s strategic transition towards closed-loop automation and domain-specific verification, and is central to sustaining the team’s competitive advantage in last-mile deployment.

Stakeholder engagement and solution scoping ●Engage with factory maintenance, quality, process, and production-leadership teams — remotely and through periodic on-site visits to the Hefei facilities — to identify, qualify, and prioritise high-value AI use cases. ●Translate ambiguous operational pain points into clearly scoped, measurable, and technically feasible agent requirements, and advise against low-value initiatives. End-to-end delivery ●Own the technical delivery lifecycle of assigned AI agents — prototype, deployment, adoption, and iteration — sharing accountability with business stakeholders for adoption and measurable operational impact. ●Establish evaluation, observability, fallback, and human-approval mechanisms appropriate to the operational risk of each deployed agent. Systems and OT integration ●Design and implement integrations between AI agents and enterprise and industrial systems — MES, SCADA, equipment-monitoring platforms, IIoT streams, approved PLC-data interfaces, and internal quality and issue-management platforms — through approved and governed interfaces, respecting cybersecurity, safety, access-control, and production-availability requirements. Agent orchestration and standardisation ●Compose and govern agents and tools on the Manufacturing Agent Platform (MAP); standardise reusable components and integration patterns to accelerate successive factory rollouts. 3. Minimum Qualifications ●Bachelor’s degree or above in Computer Science, Software/Data Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Automation, or a related technical discipline, or equivalent practical experience. ●At least three

   years of experience designing and deploying production software, data, or AI systems with real end users. ●Strong software-engineering fundamentals, including API development, data integration, testing, deployment, observability, and production troubleshooting. ●Demonstrated ability to use AI-assisted development tools effectively while independently reviewing, testing, debugging, and maintaining production code. ●Demonstrated experience with modern large-language-model and agent tooling, including retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), tool/function calling, orchestration frameworks, and evaluation methods. ●Demonstrated customer-facing capability, including requirement gathering, workshop facilitation, and stakeholder management. ●Rigorous approach to evaluation, testing, and failure-mode analysis. ●Working proficiency in English and Mandarin. ●Willingness to travel to the Hefei manufacturing facilities (typically 10–20% of working time, depending on project phase) and to work on-site within active production environments.

   Preferred Qualifications ●Experience in manufacturing, industrial, or OT settings (MES, SCADA, PLC, IIoT, or production-line computer vision). ●Experience with self-hosted / on-premises model serving (e.g., vLLM or open-weight models) and cost- and latency-aware deployment. ●Product or project management experience, including roadmap planning, stakeholder alignment, and specification writing. ●Familiarity with vision-language models, predictive maintenance, or time-series / sensor data.
